Mike McGuire was one of the founders of Valley Arts Guitars back in the early 70's. Valley Arts for those who don't know was one of the leading guitar stores in the entire US at one point. They not only sold but also manufactured guitars from their facility.
In the 90's the store had a really bad fire so Mike and his partner sold a portion of Valley Arts Guitars to Samick, a Korean guitar brand so they could focus on their main business, the manufacturing. One year later Mike and his partner sold the last of Valley Arts Guitars to Samick after being dissatified with the guitars they were manufacturing under their name. Valley Arts later succumb to the fate of Gibson, who are now under ownership of Valley Arts.
After selling his share of Valley Arts Guitars Mike McGuire then went on to be the operations manager at Gibson Custom Shop and that's where he stayed until retirment in 2012.
Throughout this process Mike and his son, John we're producing their own guitars badged 'McGuire' specialising in 'vintaged' or 'reliced' guitars.
It's hard to find information on these and what is out there is all archived but we believe this model to be a Mike McGuire MBG52.
This guitar is a custom shop standard and the relicing is hands down the best we've ever seen.
Signed by Mike McGuire on the inside of the neck pocket.
Limited numbers of these were produced and they are incresingly rare.
